Taming the Italian Stallion

Most of my journey posts are just that - remote and culturally based rides into the wilds, but this one, it's all about the ride!

Towards the end of the summer season in the Italian Alps I teamed up with mountain bike legend Hans Rey and a bunch of the best local riders for a week of trail blasting around Livigno, an amazing high-rise mountain bike paradise. Here are a selection of images from one extra special and epic day on a trail our of Alta Rezia, a dramatic and wild area above Cervinia, not from from the Gavia mountain pass.

If you only have one day in the Italian Alps and are looking for a true old school epic all-day ride then this has to be at the top of your list.

For this ride I used a full-suss GT MTB, not sure which model, but it had lots of gadgets and levers, which was new to me, and ideal for such a rough task.

Tech tack - all images were shot on a Fuji XT1 with a combo of a 10-24/18-55 & 55-200mm lenses.
