Ned's eternal youth
/From a recent chat with the legend that is Ned Overend, offering an insight into how a man in his 60’s can still swing with the best
“It’s not a simple question, but I think it’s a unique circumstance. In that I work for Specialized and they support me in going to races. I work in product development for cross-country product, and also as an ambassador.
When you go to places people like to have you in races. For instance, when I went to Brazil with the team they had their first gravel race, and so I did that race. I could have just participated, but as I still train and race I focussed on it and wanted to do as well as possible.
It’s a situation where I don’t have pressure to perform, but I put pressure on myself to try and be competitive – and that’s some motivation. I also have motivation in having people that follow me, be it on Instagram, Facebook or Strava. Those people are really excited about me staying fit and performing as I get older, and so that’s motivation
